3 hit combo Animation Progress

For this 3 hit combo I wanted to see how far I can push the poses for the character. I knew I wanted her to teleport in some way so after some brainstorming I figured this was the coolest way I could do it. Originally I had the character punching for all three of her hits but seeing how she could teleport I thought it would be a good idea to also make a sword appear for her third hit or a stronger impact. A lot of times I start my animation with sketches that help me visualize how the body poses would flow along with the frames that I would guess which pose would be at. For this project it was my first time using 2D effects using toon boom harmony. Since then I always try to include 2D effects in my 3D animation because I think it adds a lot to the shot.

For my FPS animation this was my first time animating in this style. I tried to study how other fps games animate in this perspective while also adding some personality to the character/hands. This shot helped me understand further how to animate hands and fingers and focus a lot on small detailing to further add believability to the animation.

Out of most of my game animation assignments I think this was the most I struggled with. Not because of the animation but more of the idea of what I wanted in the emote. I blocked out and scratched my idea almost 5 times before getting to this final idea. I also had to think about the time and placement constraint of the character. At some point too I was gonna have her teleport only once but I felt like it didn't read as well so I added another teleportation idea which was the game setting. This way it read a lot better and I found it to be funnier even though I had a very short time to animate this shot. Plus I was committed to the idea of lightning 2d effects in my teleportation because I think it looks cool.
